I can’t help but wonder what Iran is up to. Whatever your persuasion, it’s got to make you a little nervous when Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the top cleric, says that Iran will “stun world powers” this coming Thursday. It’s the anniversary if the Islamic revolution in Iran. It’s definitely a threat, let’s hope it’s an empty one, but somehow I doubt it. Judge for yourself, here’s the link.

Many years ago, I got interested in Biblical prophecy, but got rather lost in trying to sort it all out. I finally decided that apart from a few basic and obvious points, I wasn’t ready to deal with all that, so I sort of left prophecy on the shelf and spent my heavy duty study time in the remaining areas of Scripture, trying to learn as much as I could.
Recently I’ve been looking at it again. I know more now, and am less likely to botch up the interpretation. One thing that clearly surfaces is that Iran (also know as ancient Persia) still has a place in the prophetic time line. So does Russia, and Ezekiel speaks of a time when Iran and Russia form an alliance against Israel. Historically Russian and Iran have always been somewhat at odds with each other, but according to Joel Rosenburg (a past politico in Israel) and others, for the first time in history they’re beginning to develop ties. It’s quite interesting, though it may mean very little at this point.
Nevertheless, I’m looking at Thursday this week, attempting to be neither flippant nor alarmist. It may be that nothing will happen, but then the leadership of Iran will lose face. Seems to me they’ve got to do something, and there’s a good chance it involves Israel. At this particular phase in history, it’s probably a good idea to keep one eye on the Middle East, and the other in the Book. .
